The NCA networked with charcoal producers in the Aranos area. We also had the opportunity to meet with the DoF official for Aranos and we are confident that we will have a good relationship going forward. The producers in the South are eager to upskill and require more technical advice on all aspects of wood biomass. Many opportunities are possible here.

Plastilon Packaging had a very small and humble start in the back room of an estate agency in Lynnwood, Pretoria in 1973, by husband-and-wife team Ben & Lyn de Wet.

A special machine is used for the bush clearing. It is a 140 kw Liebherr brand wheel Loader 556 weighing 18 tonnes. Attached to the front of the Wheel Loader is a 6-tonne roller. The operator drives the machine through the bush, flattening the vegetation (shrubs, bush and trees) at, or near ground level. By using a wheeled vehicle, less damage is done to the standing grass than a caterpillar tracked vehicle will do. Ombengu Energy has researched the most cost-effective way to clear bush degraded areas using the bush roller technology, which is more environmentally friendly than using chemical methods.
