Ombengu Bush Roller

A special machine is used for the bush clearing. It is a 140 kw Liebherr brand wheel Loader 556 weighing 18 tonnes. Attached to the front of the Wheel Loader is a 6-tonne roller. The operator drives the machine through the bush, flattening the vegetation (shrubs, bush and trees) at, or near ground level. By using a wheeled vehicle, less damage is done to the standing grass than a caterpillar tracked vehicle will do.

Ombengu Energy has researched the most cost-effective way to clear bush degraded areas using the bush roller technology, which is more environmentally friendly than using chemical methods. The bush roller is made in Namibia and the operation results in greater areas cleared more cost-effective than the traditional method of hand clearing.
